Israel is the sixth country to adapt the renowned British
comedy series that first aired in the UK ten years ago. In this rendition, the
sharp-tongued dialogues at a paper supply company serve as a kind of catharsis
to poke fun at everyone in the seemingly random family of the workplace. No one
is off limits: religious, Arab, gay, macho or feminist. Avi Meshulam, the
obnoxiously overbearing boss with a big heart, is at the center of this
microcosm of Israeli society. With biting humor, HaMisrad breaks taboos around
gender, race, and the military.
